1772 Foundation Grants for Maine Historic Preservation Projects

GRANTS FOR MAINE HISTORIC PRESERVATION PROJECTS

The 1772 Foundation generously grants funding to nonprofit organizations in the form of 1:1 matching grants of up to $10,000 for shovel-ready historic preservation projects. Maine Preservation is honored to partner with The 1772 Foundation to make these grants available in Maine.

To demonstrate the sustainability of historic sites, applicants will be required to submit a cyclical maintenance/stewardship plan, and a conditions assessment, with, if needed, project phasing detail that has been prepared or updated within the last five years. If an appropriate plan does not exist, the Foundation will consider providing support for development of a plan on a case-by-case basis.

Eligibility

  • Organizations must have a 501(c)(3) IRS designation.

  • Organizations must have closed any previously awarded matching grant from The 1772 Foundation to apply.

  • Organizations must own the site or have a long-term lease to use the site.

  • Funding will not be provided for buildings currently used as schools or houses of worship.

The Foundation will consider the following matching grants:

  • For exterior painting, finishes and surface restoration

  • To install or upgrade fire detection, lightning protection and security systems

  • For repairs to/restoration of porches, roofs and windows

  • For structural foundation and sill repair/replacement

  • For chimney and masonry repointing

All organizations that wish to be considered should complete an online Letter of Interest.

Letters of Interest will be accepted until Monday, November 3, 2025

Not all letters of interest will result in an invitation to apply. Full applications will be due February 16, 2026. Please direct questions to info@mainepreservation.org with “1772 Foundation” in the subject line.
