Scott Hanson author of the award-winning and best-selling book, Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners will talk about how to approach restoring a historic house in a way that identifies and preserves its most important character-defining features while making it livable for 21st century life.

His book, published by Tilbury House Publishing and distributed by W.W. Norton, is based on more than 40 years' experience in the historic preservation field. This 720-page hardcover volume with more than 2,000 color photos and drawings was released in December 2019 and was an immediate hit across the country. Scott is Director of Preservation Consulting Services for Sutherland Conservation & Consulting in Hallowell.  His other books include Homes Down East, Classic Maine Coastal Cottages and Town Houses and The Architecture of Cushing’s Island, both co-written with Maine State Historian Earle G. Shettleworth. He has also written on historic houses and restoration for Maine Homes and Down East magazines and The Boston Sunday Globe.

The illustrated presentation will introduce the book and discuss how a thoughtful approach to restoration can preserve the historic character of a house while making it livable for contemporary lives.
