Colonial Pemaquid/NHL - New Harbor

Year listed:  1997

Example of a 17th-18th century cellar holes.

Saved! This summer (2006), this National Historic Landmark will undergo an extensive two-week archeological survey by the Maine Historic Preservation Commission. Over 80 shovel tests are planned with the enlistment of volunteers from the Friends of Pemaquid, and the local area. In the works are plans to build a Visitor Center and parking lot, but construction will await the final archeological report. Construction plans, in conjunction with the survey of historic archeological resources, represent hand-in-hand forward movement that progress and preservation can take in projects like this. We are pleased to bring attention to the success of this collaborative effort.
